Song Review: Rachel Ries’ “Words”

I’ve long wanted to share with you music that inspires my music. So because she’s coming to my town this week (well, to a crossroads in the county, anyway), let’s start with a listen at Rachel Ries’s curious and delightful “Words”.

I first saw Rachel strumming a guitar in a songwriter circle years ago. I thought, “Hmm. Good songwriter.” But this project reflects so much new creativity. I love how it represents the struggle, the worry, the waiting, the agency, and the community in writing and performing. And the toast is important: Rachel makes jams and marmalades to pair with her recordings.

Tell me what you like about it.
